Although I haven't seen the 1990 movie, with the view of the trailer I suppose the remake is better, of course, since in 2012 the technology had advanced, allowing you seem more real physical fighting, searches the man,and the shootings with futuristic weapons.
'Total Recall' (1990 vs 2012)
Regarding the 2012 remake I consider that movie is really interconnected with technology and is visually captivating. It's a movie that portrays a worker named Douglas Quaid, who wants to change their daily routine for a adventure without limits. This his ambitious desire leads him to employ the services of Total Recall, a company that uses a series of complex technological procedures to achieve all the dreams of its customers and offering Quaid the possibility of becoming a secret agent working in simultaneously to the Governmentand the Resistance. Before Quaid be connected to the machine that will allow to realize his dream, a number of government agents burst into the room and inform him that he's wanted by the government for being an agent of resistance. From this moment, Quaid begins a quest to discover his true identity and fight against those who want to kill you.

Firstly, both films are extraordinary, not only because of the actors that shape them, but also because of their incredible plots. Each one was held in different times, where the role of technology is completely different. In my opinion, there should be no comparison between them, because the times were very different.
In the first film, "Total Recall 1990," a worker named Douglas Quaid intended to simulate a trip to Mars. However, a problem happens and he is pursued by visions of that planet.
On the other hand, the second film, "Total Recall 2012" depicts the difference between two locations on the planet – The Colony and United Federation of Britain. The technology is highly evolved (Rekall, The Fall, Hover cars, Lasser-lassoo gun Touchscreen fridge, ...), and the action is extremely exciting.
Douglas Quaid is a factory worker living in a futuristic world with his beautiful wife, but he then decides to go to Rekall, a place where people can experience something by having it implanted in their minds.
Therefore, after having watched both trailers, I can say that according to the season, the film reflects a great idea, and a possible future. In both of them, Douglas Quaid becomes the only hope of victory for the locals.
Ricardo Loureiro, nº22, 10ºF I'm not going to say which is the best film because I never watch the fist film. After searching about the 1990 'Total Recall' I found some differences and similarities that I will share with you. Location:
"Total Recall" 1990: Earth with an actual mission to Mars-including mutants and aliens.
"Total Recall" 2012: Earth but without mutants and aliens.
Larger conflict:

Colony residents traveling daily to work UFB - through a vehicle of mass transportation, terrorist acts alleged by resistance fighters threaten the fragile peace between the two nations, "The Fall." - As the UFB considers military action against The Colony in order to end the possible future threats.

"Total Recall" 2012: The Seductive Woman (Kaitlyn Leeb) - a woman who, presumably, futuristic augmented her body through plastic surgery.
True mission:
"Total Recall" 1990: The multi-step infiltration of the resistance in order to kill Kuato. Agent Hauser lays ground work on Mars (romancing Melina, planting clues) before volunteering to have his mind erased - believing the less-informed version of himself, Quaid, will lead to the infamous Cohaagen resistance leader.
"Total Recall" 2012: Infiltrate the resistance and kill Matthias Lair. Hauser successfully "joins" the resistance but, upon meeting Melina, decides he's on the wrong side of the conflict. Furious, Cohaagen captures Hauser, plants false memories.
Final Outcome:
"Total Recall" 1990: Quaid kills Cohaagen and successfully activates the alien reactor. Essentially, that spreads breathable, oxygenated, air across the Martian landscape - ending the governor's strangle hold on Mars citizens.
"Total Recall" 2012: Quaid kills Cohaagen and destroys the invading robot forces - along with "The Fall" which has long been viewed as a symbolism of the Colony's oppression at the hand of the UFB.

Total Recall (2012) - My own view, it's own purpose Some critics say that this remake is worse than the original movie. Others argue that they can't be compared. And there are others that even disclaim that "Total Recall" (2012) is much better. On my point of view, it is a matter of opinion.
In "Total Recall" we get to know a man, factory worker, who decides to go to Rekall, a place where old memories are erased and new ones are created. In short notice, we discover that he is a secret agent. This movie is basically his travel through a short period of time where he wants to be himself and not Douglas Quaid, the worker. He happens to meet with his girlfriend and, together, they save the world from Cohaagen, the villan.
This movie has strong and week characters, such as Douglas/ Carl Hauser, Melina, Lori Quaid, Cohaagen, Matthias and Harry. They are all linked, even when we think they don't know each other.
Carl is the non-typical hero who tries to deal with his problems and the world's problems at the same time. A nice move, of course, but is it the right one?
Melina is the girl who is moved by love. Two kinds of love: a passionate love (relantionship with Hauser) and a patriotic one (the admiration and loyalty with Matthias - the resistance's leader)
Lori Quaid, also know as "ex-wife" , "serial killer" and "current enemy" who works for Cohaagen and plans to obey him, even when disobeying. In more clear words: even when se disobeys, she wants to please him.
Cohaagen is the "Chancellor", the power. He has one aim: have power and control the world. Just like President Snow, in "The Hunger Games", he doesn't look at means to achieve ends.
Matthias is, just like I mentioned before, the resistance's leader. He tries to set people free and is a true believer.
Harry is a character who plays a decisive role in a certain part of the movie. However is not one that you remember. He is "Douglas' friend" who tries to warn him in the beggining and tries to kill his girl in the middle.
SPOILER ALERT: He dies. Just like a couple of robots and other characters.
Despite being filled with clichés and predictable details, it is a good movie, good for a sunday afternoon or an english class ;)

AN OPINION BETWEEN TWO MOVIES
First of all I have to say that I didn´t see the "1990" Total Recall but in the trailers we can see that the two movies have a amazing plot which attract people.
Some critics in favour of the first Total Recall movie show us that this movie had greater impact due to the fact that at that time weren´t many movies that had such an intense action as the "1990" Total Recall and to addict the violence, at that time, had a punitive role but now we know that "it´s only a movie". Together the two movies have excellent actors that improved the performance.
However, about the second movie of Total Recall I can have a personal opinion. To start, I think this film have some similar things to the first film. In the "2012" Total Recall he could see very weel the futuristic details, like the change of Recall chair but also other aspects like the touchscreen fridge, the implanted handphone, and many other things. We could also see the improvement of the special effects that also attract people. Inside the plot I hadn´t word to characterize it not only because of is this fascinating plot that attracts people but also due to the fact that could connect the action movements, like run from the police, with technology.
To conclude, I think that the two movies are really good, but especially about the "2012" movie owing the class preview I can say that this film is best under the improvement of the technology. The second movie also makes the action more real and is completely earthbound. I am not a sci-fi fan but I nominate it one of my favourite sci-fi movies.

Total Rehash
In the first place, I would like to point out that I found both films very entertaining. Usually, I don't agree with making remakes; however, this new sci-fi action film did take my attention until the end. In my humble opinion, I see slight similarities between the two films. Maybe because they are 22 years apart, but in general, the plot is different.
The first film was mostly a pioneer (and blockbuster), due to the fact that in 1990, there weren't as many action films as there are today. It's notable for its special effects, which were far ahead of that time. The acting is good, possibly one of Schwarzenegger's best performances and the I found this storyline more creative and attractive since it includes outer space.
On the other hand, the second film cares more about action scenes (which are pretty remarkable). There are endless fight scenes that after a while become repetitive. The acting was not excellent and there were some cliché dialogues throughout the film. Nonetheless, the special effects are impressive, from the futurist devices to the background scenarios.
In conclusion, I liked both movies but it's hard for me to compare them since they are so different. If you really enjoy action scenes, you should definitely see the remake. However, if I had to choose one of them would be the first one because of its plot and suspense.

TOTAL RECALL (2012)- My personal opinion
First of all, I dind't like this movie that much. I think this is the kind of movie that we see just to spend the time. Honestly, I wouln't pay to see it in the cinema. In my opinion, Hauser, Cohaagen and Lori were the only characters interesting and that actually made a difference in the movie. For example, Melina is totally irrelevant in the concept of the film, she was there just to create a love and beautiful story, that actually became boring, not intense and totally predictable with cliché lines. The arguments of the characters were not that strong and the concept of the movie is nothing we haven't seen before, but, despite all of that, I think the political and power's thirst key ideas were there. Like I said before, I'm not a sci-fi fan, but I think the special effects and the action parts were the main reason why I didn't hate the movie.

In this amazing video we can see the beauty of our mind. It makes us think about those things that we don't value that much such as our hability to think, to see, "to pass our knowledge, to share". A video that puts our mind in the first place. Not technology, not muscles, not beauty. Our brain, our memories, our personality, our hability to be a human - these are the keys to success, to evolution. We have to notice that, by all means, humans are the most powerful especies in this world and some of us don't recognize that very often. So, we need to take a stand, to leave a mark in this world.
In terms of a connection with the quote and the movie: In "Total Recall", the main character questions himself. He doesn't do that in an explicit way, but we can understand that, when he decides to erase his memories and change what he thinks about himself, he spreads the message that he needs to be better. The problem is: he is not planning to change, to improve his own personality on his own. He decides that the best way to do that is by evolved technology. In my opinion that is a huge mistake. We are what we are because of our experiences, our mistakes, our taughts through life. If we decide to erase it all, we will change everything that makes us who we are. I would never do that to myself. I am confident enough to think that this is me and, if I want to change some detail, I have to work hard and define priorities. Everyone should think like that.
With the years, humans and technology will be unstoppable and I truly believe that that evolution will provide "mindshaping" and the absolute control of our emotions and thoughts. Although, I think that the decision of making changes or simply testing it in people will come to each and single one of us.
To sum up, I am really scared of everything that as to due with alterations in your head. I prefer to stick to my own persona and not to another. I was born like this and I will die like this.

In my opion Total Recall is one of the most well made si fi movies I've seen. I can't say I'm a huge si fi movies fan, but this movie capt anyone's attention because of it's effects and actors.
On this movie, a factory worker named Douglas Quaid, begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Rekall, a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led, but something goes wrong and he finds himself fighting to find out who He really is: a simple factory worker or a spy.
What makes this film so exciting and different is to imagine how the world could be in the future and how would be the political ideals. In this film was built a parallel world that separates more evolved civilization and the normal robots. The problem that evolution can be destroy human race leads us to the question: how far can technological advancement bring humans and can that become a danger? In which side is the government? Quaid is facing a mission to save the planet and above all to find out who he is, and what memories of the past were in Recall, making this movie a interesting adventure. However, I don't like the ideia of letting technology take any control of our thoughts and our personality. No one should think that by implanting fake emotions or memories that will be good for them. We are the ones who trace our destiny and choose live the life we want to life, never being anyone but ourselves, knowing that no one is equal and we are always the same person creating our personality. We are our fellings, our thaugts and our own pesonality, that is the most important thing, being ourselves. No one is better by being anyone else, we are who we are and we should be confident in beng the vbest version of ouselves. I am who I am and I love being :) Ana Sofia Cabral, nº4, 10ºF
